Oil Painting

I began my career as a watercolorist with a focus on equine art. I’m glad I did because many artists say watercolor is the hardest medium to master. It was a very good foundation for oil painting and taught me the importance of values, composition and keeping color fresh. Creating Western and Southwestern Art in oil painting is not without its challenges, but oil painting is much more forgiving and allows for greater latitude. I’ve long romanticized the cowboy, Western art and Southwest art genres. Creating Western art allows me to combine my love of the horse, the human figure, gorgeous scenery and the colors of the West in my art. Also, Western art is reminiscent of wholesome values, hard work and plenty of adventure.
